The Japan Airlines Sky School 2009 (Junket Flight) took off on Sunday, 1 November to entertain 200 children, 93 honourable guests and working staff for an one-hour trip flying over the sky of Hong Kong. It was the first experience of cruising on a jumbo plane for most of the young guests.
Aged between 7 and 12, most of the children were winners of an open draw held on 29 September.
69 children were coming from nine non-profit making charitable organizations, namely:
The Boys'and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong ,
Heep Hong Society Tung Chung Centre,
Hong Chi Tuen Mun Morning Hope School,
The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club Tin Yiu Youth S.P.O.T.,
Hong Kong Lutheran Church Bradbury School Caring Centre,
Hong Kong Student Aid Society,
Hope Worldwide (Hong Kong) ,
The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Community Services.
The B747-400 aircraft took off at 7:50 a.m. from Hong Kong International Airport. During the flight, the children had a wonderful bird's-eye view of Hong Kong landscape from 5,000 feet above sea level. It was also an amazing opportunity for them to look upon the buildings and their homes high up from the sky. Television artistes performed in-flight singing and playing games with them.
"This year marks the 26th anniversary of the JAL Sky School. JAL has always had a keen involvement and fulfillment in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a corporate citizen," said Mr. Mitsuaki Mitsuura, Regional Manager of Hong Kong, Macau and Southern China, Japan AirLines, "It is a meaningful, charity community event of JAL! "
"JAL Sky School" will be featured on TVB Jade s children programme, "After-school" on 20 November 2009.
